Karnal: A new variety of sugarcane, co-16030, popularly known as Karan-16 was introduced in the 34th meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Lucknow, reports Tribuneindia. The new variety has been developed by scientists based in ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Regional Centre, and Karnal.
The trials of this variety were conducted at nine different locations of the North West Zone of the country from 2019-20 to 2021-22 and after consecutive success, this mid-late variety was identified. The variety would be available for farmers soon.
This variety is a combination of high yield, commercial cane sugar and red rot resistance.
