Nifty and Sensex open higher after government’s stimulus boost

Mumbai: Equity indices opened on a positive note today. BSE Sensex today on 26th August 2019 was trading 245.71 points higher at 36,946.87 at 9:30 am. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty too surged 67.30 points at 10,896.65 in morning trade.

The rise was expected as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday announced slew of measures in an attempt to revive slowing economic growth.

SBI, M&M, HDFC twins, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, L&T, ITC and Axis Bank were among the top gainers rising up to 3 per cent.

Vedanta, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, HCL Tech and Hero MotoCorp were among the top losers falling up to 4 per cent.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee depreciated 33 paise to 71.99 against the US dollar.

The global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.99 per cent lower at 58.22 per barrel.
