Nigeria: Sugar refineries to hold prices steady for Ramadan

In a noteworthy alignment with the Federal Government’s pursuit of food security and economic stability, major sugar refineries nationwide are reported to have committed to avoiding any increase in sugar prices during Ramadan, reported Business Day.

This decision coincides with the objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda and was highlighted during the recent tour by Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

During her visits to prominent sugar producers including Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, BUA Sugar Refinery Ltd, Flour Mills Limited, Bestaf Ltd, Golden Sugar Company, and the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CHBN), Uzoka-Anite observed a steadfast commitment to maintaining price stability.

“Please be assured, there will be no increase in sugar prices, especially during Ramadan,” the Minister affirmed, showcasing the refineries’ dedication to supporting the nation during this significant period.

The minister emphasized that the sugar refineries’ pledge was indicative of their alignment with the government’s efforts to fortify the agricultural sector and ensure food security, integral components of President Tinubu’s transformative agenda.

“I have witnessed their commitment to high-quality sugar production. While commendable, our collective goal demands a higher standard,” stated Uzoka-Anite, acknowledging the industry’s efforts. She stressed the imperative for sustained excellence and efficiency in production.

Addressing performance concerns during her visit to Golden Sugar Company, the minister emphasized that subpar performance in the sugar master plan would not be acceptable.

Her statement highlighted the refineries’ commitment not only to maintaining prices during Ramadan but also to enhancing overall productivity and efficiency in alignment with the government’s vision.

The assurance by sugar refineries, reinforced by the unwavering stance of the Federal Government, marks a reassuring stride towards national development.
