Nitish Kumar urges Centre to remove cap on ethanol production in Bihar

Patna: Bihar claims that it has abundance of raw material for ethanol production and also capable of becoming one of the top ethanol producers in the country. State wants the Centre’s help to achieve the same.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar has urged the Centre to remove cap on ethanol production in Bihar stating that the state can produce more ethanol than that of the allocated quota.

Speaking at Patna, the CM said that the Centre should not limit Bihar by allowing a particular quota of ethanol production as the high availability of maize and rice husk can help the state to increase ethanol production.

He had also expressed his concerns to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari urging him to increase Bihar’s ethanol production quota.

Bihar has planned to set up 17 ethanol projects out of which one has become operational and the remaining will start operations soon. State’s Industries Minister Shahnawaz Hussain said that the state has received proposals for Rs 30,000 crore for the ethanol sector.
