Nizamabad: Farmers want revival of sugar mills as election issue

Nizamabad: Sugarcane farmers in Nizamabad have decided to make the revival of sugar factories an election issue.

Two major sugar mills in the district namely Nizam Sugar Factory aka Nizam Deccan Sugar Limited (NDSL) in Bodhan and Nizamabad Co-operative Sugar Factory (NCSF) at Sarangapur have been closed since 2008 and farmers are staging protest to revive these mills.

According to the news report published in The New Indian Express, during the 2019 General Elections, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind raised the issue and got benefit and, other parties too are keen on tapping the issue.

The meeting of farmers and stakeholders of NCSF convened a meeting to discuss the revival of the sugar mills, which was attended by former minister Mandava Venkateshwar Rao who extended support to them.
