No impact on harvest operations for Rabi crops due to 2nd Covid wave

New Delhi: The second wave of Covid-19 is impacting all the economic activities but the harvesting of sugarcane and other crops have not been impacted.

According to the media report, farmers have already harvested over 55% of their crops as on Friday, showing continued resilience of the farm sector in the face of the pandemic.

The harvesting operations of Rabi (winter sown) crops is expected to complete in 2-3 weeks that will give farmers sufficient time to prepare for the Kharif crop cycle ahead of monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is expected to come out with its first stage monsoon forecast in the middle of this month.

As per the agriculture ministry, the farmers have already harvested 83% of sugarcane till now.
