No sugar shortage in the country: Pakistan Sugar Mills Association

Lahore: According to the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (Punjab Zone), there is no sugar shortage in the country, reports Brecorder.

The spokesperson of the organisation denied the news item in the media regarding the shortage of the sweetener in the country that has quoted the government officials and ministers.

The current surplus stock of sugar in the country is around 1.2 million metric tonnes, according to the spokesperson. The sugar industry is urging the government to grant permission to export surplus sugar.
The government has verified the sugar stocks available with the mills through FRB’s Track and Trace System.

The surplus sugar stocks are available till January 2023 and the government must consider the situation of the millers, he said.
