Notices issued to sugar mills for pending cane dues

Saharanpur: Sugarcane department has issued notices to the sugar mills that have failed to clear the pending cane dues of farmers. The department has directed the officials to initiate stern action against the millers that are delaying the cane payments. Sugar mills owe around Rs 676 crore to the cane farmers in the district.

The sugarcane crushing season is in the final phase with two out of six sugar mills closed their operations. The farmers have stated that they are unable to bear the financial stress due to delay in the cane payments.

According to the news report published in Amarujala.com, Krishna Mohan Mani Tripathi, district cane officer said, “The sugar mills have been asked to clear the pending cane dues on a priority basis else we will take action against them.”
