NSI and UPSMA to jointly organise ‘International Conference & Sugar Expo’ on 11-12th October 2023

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): The National Sugar Institute (NSI) in Kanpur and the UP Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA) will jointly organise the ‘International Conference & Sugar Expo’ on the 11-12th October 2023.

The conference is being organised under the theme ‘Sugar Industry Modernization and Diversification for Sustainability.’ Delegates and experts from 12 countries, including England, Australia, Thailand, China, Iran, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, are expected to participate. In the sugar expo, more than 30 reputable machinery manufacturers and technology providers will participate to showcase their products and services.

During the inaugural session, ten alumni of the institute, who have brought laurels to the institute by developing innovative technologies, will be conferred the ‘SHARKARASHRI’ award. Additionally, five technologists and engineers will receive the ‘TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE’ award for their exemplary contributions to developing technologies for energy and water conservation, as well as for producing value-added products from the by-products of the sugar industry. During the session, 12 sugar companies will be conferred the ‘INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARD’ for taking extraordinary measures to enhance productivity, develop green energy, and produce specialty sugars.

During the conference, thirty-five research papers on important aspects of sugar and ethanol production, including sugarcane agronomy, will be presented. ‘We are also going to have one session exclusively to discuss the international scenario of sugar, wherein overseas experts will make presentations,’ said Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director of the National Sugar Institute in Kanpur. ‘Many overseas delegates have expressed their intention to seek institute cooperation to meet their training needs and for modernization of the sugar industry, and such matters will also be finalised on the sidelines of the conference,’ added the Director.

Providing a broad outline of the conference, Shri D. Swain, Professor of Sugar Engineering, and Shri Deepak Guptara, Secretary-General of the UP Sugar Mills Association, informed that about five hundred delegates will participate in the conference. Shri Sanjiv Chopra, Secretary (Food & Public Distribution), Government of India, and Shri APS Sandhu, Managing Director of Sugarfed, Punjab, will be the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor, respectively.”
