NSI sets up Animal Care Unit to take care of destitute and helpless animals

‘Animal Care Unit’ has been established by National Sugar Institute, Kanpur to take care of destitute and helpless animals and provide them proper shelter. This ‘Animal Care Unit’ firstly will work to prepare the database of animals living in the institute premises. Also, it will be the responsibility of this unit to keep records of whether all the animals have been vaccinated or not and in case they are not vaccinated, it will help in arranging their vaccination. Providing as much fodder or food as possible and allocating a space for animals that are not domesticated shall also be a priority of the care unit.

Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director told that under the ‘Animal Care Unit’, an “Animal Welfare Group” comprising employees and students of the institute has also been formed which, apart from helping in all these works, will organize seminars from time to time, so that, different sections of the society can be made aware of the provisions in the law related to preventing cruelty to animals, and seeking their involvement in this campaign.
Senior Administrative Officer of the institute, Shri Brijesh Kumar Sahu said that a program outline has been prepared on this subject, under which other institutions will also be included to bring awareness on the subject of animal welfare.
