OMCs to set up 12 ethanol plants

State-run oil marketing companies will set up 12 ethanol manufacturing plants in the country to help India achieve the target of 20 per cent ethanol blending by 2025.

As per a news report published in Financialexpress.com, Tarun Kapoor, secretary, ministry of petroleum and natural gas said, “The Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation have been asked to set up ethanol manufacturing plants with 150 crore litre per annum capacity out of 1,000 crore litre that will be required to meet the target 2025. This will require the investment of Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 crore.”

Apart from this, the OMCs will be setting up storage facilities for the ethanol produced from other manufacturers, he said.

The central government with an aim to lower the expenditure on foreign exchange has set a target of blending 20 per cent ethanol with petrol by 2025. The roadmap for ethanol blending in India 2020-25 was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5 this year on the occasion of World Environment Day.
