Pakistan government to initiate action against sugar barons

Islamabad: In a Cabinet meeting organized on Tuesday, the Imran Khan government gives nod to take action sugar barons as per the recommendations made by the inquiry commission. The cabinet also decided to take action against them in a stipulated time period. The government will take action against those who earned undue profit by artificially increasing sugar prices.

Briefing the media about the decision in a cabinet meeting, Information Minister Shibli Faraz said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan told the cabinet that the action against sugar barons will send a signal to those following illegal practices in the sugar sector and hiking the sugar price in the market. The action would bring transparency in business activities in sugarcane purchasing, sugar production and sugar sale.”

“Government has made a number of changes for the entire network of the sugar industry and the results will be visible from next three months. These changes would help in determining the sugar prices at affordable rates for customers,” he further added.
