Pakistan government urged to ban sugar exports

Lahore: Citing the reason for rising sugar prices in the domestic market, the Progressive Group composed of the members of the Lahore Chamber has urged the government to ban sugar exports, reports Pakistani media.

The Group has issued a statement stating that the rising sugar prices are affecting industries as well as consumers and the sugar mafia as well as hoarders are behind the rising sugar prices. They have demanded the government take immediate steps to keep a check on the hoarders and ensure that the sugar prices in the market are not rising. They have expressed fear that an increase in the export of sugar would lead to a shortage of the commodity in the domestic market further fuelling price rise.
