Pakistan: Notices issued to sugar mills for not starting crushing operations

Lahore: Hussain Bahadur, Sugarcane Commissioner, Punjab has issued show-cause notices to 10 sugar mills for not starting the crushing season, reports Brecorder.

He issued them notices on Monday warning them of taking legal action against them as per the rule.

Out of a total of 41 sugar mills in the province, 31 mills have started crushing operations.

Seven had alleged they were not receiving cane yet as an excuse for delaying the crushing and three not started operations due to some internal issues, he said.

“We have issued them notices under Section 8 of the Punjab Sugarcane Factories Control Act, 1950 which states that the miller should start crushing cane not later than a date specified by the government. This season the date for starting crushing was November 25, 2022,” he said.

He has asked the millers to reply to the notices within two days.
