Pakistan: Officials asked to check deductions by sugar mills

Lahore, Pakistan: The Punjab Cane Commissioner has asked the officials to keep a check on the alleged deductions of sugarcane that are being made at sugar mills. The orders have been issued to the officials to take steps to discourage this practice.

Cane Commissioner Hussain Bahadur said that this office was receiving a complaint from cane farmers that the sugar millers were illegally making deductions in cane weight.

Following this, he has asked the district administration to activate the District Monitoring Examining Committees and deploy a team at the mill gate to keep a check on such types of illegal activities. The action will be initiated against those found violating the law under section 21 of the Punjab Sugar Factories (control) (amendment) Act 2021.
