Pakistan plans to lower sugar prices in its budget

Pakistan is facing high prices for things people need, so the government is thinking about putting money aside to make five important foods including sugar cheaper in the next budget.

The Ministry of Industries and Production wants ideas from stores about what to do for next year’s budget. This will probably be part of the Prime Minister’s Relief Package budget, which ends on June 30th.

Right now, about Rs. 3 billion every month is spent on making five key items cheaper, like sugar, flour, ghee, pulses, and rice, especially for people in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The lower prices are Rs. 109 for sugar per kilogram, Rs. 648 for a 10-kilogram bag of flour, and Rs. 393 for ghee per kilogram at stores for BISP beneficiaries.

Adding these cheaper prices in the budget shows the government wants to help people deal with high prices and tough economic times.
