Pakistan purchases 200,000 tonnes of sugar

Hamburg: Pakistan is believed to have purchased around 200,000 tonnes of white sugar from an international market, said European traders.

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) had floated an international tender for the purchase of 200,000 tonnes of sugar that closed on August 24.

Reuters has reported that according to traders, the sugar was purchased at around $637.10 per tonne c&f from Al Khaleej Sugar (AKS), said traders.

The Pakistan government had approved the purchase of sugar in 2020 to meet the shortage of the commodity in the domestic market and arrest the price rise as the production was less than the consumption.
