Manila: The Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) will be providing the financial aid worth PHP79 million to around 4000 displaced sugarcane field workers located in Calabarzon.
These workers are from the central Azucarera Don Pedro, Inc (CADPI) Sugar Mill, one of Luzon’s biggest raw sugar producers.
The company after experiencing operational and financial challenges within the current conditions filed a permanent closure that has affected the sugar industry in Batangas area.
DOLE 4-A (Calabarzon) Director Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla issued a statement assuring that the workers will be given due intervention through existing programs of the department.
We will be providing sustainable livelihood assistance to the affected workers to optimize the use of funds, she said.
