The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) has alleged that the failed plan to import 300,000 metric tons (MT) of sugar involves corruption, reports Manila Times.
According to the media report, SINAG President Rosendo So said that as per the consultation organized by the officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), there was only a need for 100,000 MT of sugar.
“The shortfall mentioned was only 100,000 MT. The increase in the volume of sugar importation indicates that there is corruption involved in this,” So said.
An investigation has been launched by Malacanang to find out the illegal plan to import 300,000 MT of sugar, said Press Secretary Rose Beatrice “Trixie”.
