Philippines: SRA stops sugar export to US to meet domestic demand

The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has stopped sugar export to the USA as the domestic demand for sugar is rising. According to the media report, the SRA has issued a new sugar order, effective April 4, that would allocate the country’s entire sugar production to the domestic market.

As per the order the sugar output was estimated to be 2.19 million metric tonnes and 7% of it is reserved to export to the US.

Till February end the production has reached 1.22 million MT and the production is likely to dip due to the La Nina phenomenon which will continue till May.
