Philippines: Sugar production increases in December

Manila: Domestic sugar output in the country has increased by 13.17% in the first week of December.

As per the data released by the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), sugar output in December has increased to 461,486 metric tons (MT) from 407,770 MT in the same period last year.

During the same period, the demand for raw sugar rose by 6.04% to 432,181 MT. The prices of sugar at Millgate rose by 11.29% to P1, 680.76 per 50-kilo bag. The sugar output is likely to reach 2.0997 million MT for the current year, states SRA.

The SRA has stated that all the sugar produced will be used in the domestic market and no sugar will be exported to countries like the US.
