Philippines: Sugarcane workers receive cash aid

Philippines government has provided cash aid worth P16 million to the sugarcane workers from Western Visayas in Region 6.

Philippines: Sugarcane workers from Western Visayas in Region 6 received cash aid from worth P16 million. The cash has been provided by the Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) and each worker will get P1000 as financial assistance.

Mary Agnes Capigon, head of DOLE’s provincial field office, said, “Covid-19 pandemic has increased the hardship of the sugarcane workers and assistance aimed to reach out to the most vulnerable and marginalized workers in the country.”

According to the media report, the regional office released the assistance with the help of the local Sugar Tripartite Council and the coordination of 26 planters’ associations and nine sugar mills in the region.

The beneficiaries are from Victorias City, Cadiz City, Bacold City, Talisay City, Silay City, Sipalay City, Kabankalan City, Carlota City, Bago City, San City, Sagay City and the municipalities that include Valladolid, Pontevedra, Binalbagan, Manapla, Murcia, Ilog and E. B. Magalona.
