Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday was given additional charge of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. It was assigned to him following the death of Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) founder and union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Currently, in the NDA-led government, Goyal is serving as the Minister of Railways and Minister of Commerce and Industry.
On Thursday, Paswan passed away at the age of 74. He recently underwent heart surgery in Delhi. Paswan was elected to Lok Sabha eight times and also held the record of winning with high margins from his constituency Hajipur. In his long political career, he always worked for the welfare of the poor, dalits, underprivileged and others.
During his work tenure, Paswan had taken many decisions for sugar and other industries for their welfare.
