New Delhi, Jun 27, (UNI) : Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday took on the Uttar Pradesh government and said it is not concerned about the sugarcane farmers in the state.

Tweeting a news report about sugarcane farmers not getting their payment on time, Ms Priyanka said that the Yogi Adityanath government turned its back on the farmers soon after the elections were over.

“The UP BJP government, which reiterated its promise of payment to sugarcane farmers in the elections, turned away from the sugarcane farmers as soon as the elections were held”, she tweeted.

The Congress general secretary further said that the life of farmers were affected due to the non-payment for their crops.

“Somebody has to get their daughter married, somebody has to sow the next crop, but the money is stuck and the farmer is stumbling from low rate. Is the Government at all concerned about the farmers?”, Ms Priyanka asked.

Ms Priyanka, who is also in-charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, is constantly involved in the matter related to the state, even after the party had faced a rout in the recently held Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier too, she has taken on the Adityanath government on several issues, while making plans to revamping the party in the BJP-ruled state.
