Punjab: Cooperative sugar mills release Rs 45 crore pending cane dues

Chandigarh: Cooperative sugar mills have released the pending cane dues of Rs 45 crore for the 2020-21 season.

According to the news report published in Tribuneindia.com, Cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the state government has released the amount in interest of farmers even though the Union government has yet not released the export subsidy for 2019-20 and buffer stock subsidy worth Rs 10.56 crore of the cooperative sugar mills.

The government has made the provision of Rs 300 crore in the 2021-22 budget to clear the balance amount, he said.

Randhawa said, “The government is taking several steps to increase the income of sugarcane farmers and one such step is to provide 20 lakh high-yielding variety seeds to the cane farmers before starting sowing season. The seeds are being prepared with the assistance of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Karnal centre of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.”
