Punjab: Demand to raise sugarcane price

Chandigarh, Punjab: 30 farmers unions will meet Centre today to discuss issues related to Farm Laws. They will be holding talks with union agriculture minister Narendra Tomar and railway minister Piyush Goyal.

Farmers unions leaders met yesterday to discuss the joint strategy for Friday’s meeting. They also demanded that the pending dues of cane growers from the previous years should be released immediately.

According to the media report, Harmeet Singh Qadian, president, BKU Qadian said, ” The sugarcane rates in the state is low. The state advised price (SAP) of cane has increased by Rs 350 per quintal in Haryana while in Punjab the cane prices have remained stable from last three years. We demand that we should be given a similar raise in SAP.”
