Punjab farmers to get cane dues by September 15

Chandigarh: Sugar mills in Punjab are yet to pay cane dues to the farmers. Punjab’s agriculture minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Friday announced that the pending dues of Rs 300 crore of sugarcane farmers would be released in three instalments.

The announcement was made by Minister in a meeting that was attended by the leaders of Samyukta Kisan Morcha.

Of the total 16 sugar mills in the state, seven in the private sector owe dues of Rs 162 crore and nine cooperative mills owe arrears of Rs 300 crore to the cane farmers.

The sugar mills will get the first instalment of Rs 100 crore by July 30, the second instalment by August 30 and the final instalment of Rs 100 crore by September 15, according to Dhaliwal.
