Punjab govt yet to announce sugarcane SAP

Chandigarh: The commencement of sugarcane crushing in the state is scheduled for November 21, despite the state government’s pending announcement of the State Advised Price (SAP) for the current year, reported Tribune India.

As per media report, the final decision on SAP is set to be made during a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board later this week,

With Haryana recently announcing a SAP of Rs 386 per quintal, the state government, grappling with three successive elections (urban and rural local bodies, and General Election), is under pressure to at least align its SAP with the neighbouring state.

However, despite seven private sugar mills contributing to 70 per cent of cane crushing, reports indicate that this year these private mills are not inclined to endorse an increase in SAP.
