Punjab: Sugarcane farmers demand the release of cane dues

Jalandhar: Sugarcane farmers have urged the Punjab government to clear the pending cane dues apart from the subsidy, reports The Times of India.

Around eight farm groups have come together and put forward their demands to the state government.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, they said that the Phagwara sugar mill owes dues worth Rs 36 crore for the 2019-20 season and the government should take steps to ensure that farmers get their dues in time.

The farmers’ leaders said that they are expecting a positive response from the government.
