Rajasthan: Sugarcane farmers stage demonstration at Legislative Assembly to restart closed sugar mill

Keshoraipatan, Rajasthan: Farmers launched demonstration at the Legislative Assembly for their demand to start the closed Keshoraipatan cooperative sugar mill. After police stopped them from entering the Legislative Assembly, they launched sit-in agitation on road.

Addressing the protesters, one of the agitating farmer Giriraj Gautam said, “We want to raise our demand through democratic way, but the administration is not allowing us to do so. We won’t stop if the government fails to announce the starting of a mill in this budget session and will come on the road again.”

Farmers’ leader Dashrath Kumar said, “If the government does not want to run a mill, then handover it to farmers. We will soon intensify our agitation if the government fails to work on our demand.”

A delegation of 11 members was called by the government to discuss the issue. The delegation put forward their concerns and demands regarding starting of the mill.

The cooperative sugar mill of Keshoraipatan is lying defunct since 2004. The unit, which started in 1970, was closed due to financial losses in 2004.
