Reliance Jio users have to pay for voice calls made to other telecom operators

Mumbai: In a setback to Jio users before Diwali now they have to pay money for calling other telecom operators. It will charge 6 paise per minute for outgoing calls made to rival networks such as Vodafone-Idea, Airtel, BSNL, MTNL.

Customers will have to top up with Rs 10 to Rs 100 to pay for interconnect usage charge (IUC). However, they will get an equivalent amount of free data. Jio said, “Jio will provide additional data entitlement of equivalent value based on IUC top-up voucher consumption. This will ensure no increase in tariff for customers.”

Experts from the telecom industry expect that other companies too may follow the footsteps of Jio.

Recently, during the 42nd RIL annual general meeting (AGM) on August 12, Ambani announced free internet services for budding startups.
