Robbery cases increase at defunct Mysore Sugar Factory

According to the media report, thefts cases have been increased at the defunct Mysore Sugar Factory. The factory is closed since it went into losses.

Many sugarcane farmers in Mandya and Mysuru districts and workers were relied on the factory to run their livelihood. After the factory suffered heavy losses, the government closed the operations.

As per a news report published in Thehansindia.com, the thieves are stealing steel, iron items from factory and selling it to scrap as steel rate has increased now. Also, security persons are there to guard the factory, but still, robbery is happening.

Recently, the farmers’ organization had warned of protest if the factory is given on lease to any private company. The farmers claim that the closure of the sugar factory has affected hundreds of cane growers and stated that they are against the government’s decision to lease the factory to a private player.

A police complaint has been filed with a local police station and cops arrested four people in connection with the case.
