Rudrapur: Farmers demand to clear pending cane dues

Rudrapur, Uttar Pradesh: Already cash-strapped sugarcane farmers due to the coronavirus pandemic met the sub-divisional magistrate and urged him to ensure sugar mills clear the pending cane dues immediately.

According to the news report published in Amarujala.com, Shivdas Singh, former director of Cane Union, Gopal Gupt, Suresh, R K Sinh and others said that the financial condition of farmers has deteriorated due to the coronavirus pandemic. Their livelihood depends on agricultural income. The Sugarcane farmers have borrowed loans for cane cultivation and are unable to repay them as the mills have not yet cleared their dues. The Pratappur sugar mill from the region has not yet cleared the pending cane dues of the farmers.

The farmers handed over the letter of their demands addressed to the chief minister to the SDM urging him to force mills to clear their dues.
