Russia likely to export 1.3 million tonnes of sugar

Even though the sugar consumption in Russia is affected due to the coronavirus pandemic and outlook for this season’s output may be worsening, the country is likely to maintain the export equivalent to last year.

Russia has doubled its sugar output over the past decade that helped the country to become from an importer of sugar to exporter. The lower consumption due to the coronavirus pandemic would lead to a hike in the inventories for the 2019-20 season.

According to the supply-chain services firm Czarnikow Group, the hike in stockpiles of sugar in Russia would help to export 1.3 million tonnes of sugar in the 2020-21 season, equal to that of the earlier year.
