Saharanpur: Area under cane cultivation decreases

Saharanpur: The area under sugarcane cultivation has been decreased in the district by 2256 hectares, reports Amar Ujala.

During last season around 21,525.544 hectares of area was under cane cultivation which has been reduced to 1,19,269.286 hectares this season.

As per the sugarcane survey reports the area under cane cultivation in the jurisdiction of Deoband sugar mill has increased by 10% whereas the area associated with Gangnauli sugar mill has reported an increase in cane area by 2%.

Sarsawa sugar mill area has reported a decrease in cane cultivation by 11%, Nanauta by 8%, Gagalheri by 9% and the Shermau area has shown a decrease of 6%.

The decrease in the cane cultivation area will increase the competition among sugar mills to purchase cane for crushing this season.

District cane officer Sushil Kumar said, “This season the area under cane cultivation has decreased by 2%. The figures are likely to change as we have to receive a sugarcane survey report of the entire district. During next season, closed sugar mills Bidawi and Todarpur will start operations.”
