“Send defaulter sugar millers to jail”

Lucknow: Sugarcane farmers have intensified their protest over sugarcane dues. The meeting called to discuss cane dues issue in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh turned violent as farmers were adamant on their demand to clear cane arrears immediately. Pressing on their demand, they urged the government to either jail them or the defaulter millers.

Farmers from five districts participated in the meeting and as it began, farmers raised their demand for payment of cane dues.
To pacify the situation, Sugar Commissioner Sanjay Bhoosreddy assured them of action against the millers.

Sugarcane farmers claim that their financial condition is worsening day-by-day as they have not received dues from mills. Farmers assert that they are unable to feed their families, nor able to pay school fees of their children.

Sugarcane arrears in Uttar Pradesh are getting cleared at a snail pace; therefore CM Yogi Adityanath had served Agust 31 deadline to all mills for clearing the cane arrears. Keeping in view the delay in the payment clearing process, the CM Yogi Adityanath strictly instructed the officials that all the dues of cane growers should be paid by August. But in spite of that, sugar mills flouted the deadline.
