Shamli: Farmers demand payment of pending sugarcane dues

Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Several farmers, concerned about the pending payments for sugarcane, submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate on Monday demanding the settlement of farmers’ dues.

They warned of staging a protest demonstration on May 15 if the payments were not made. Led by Sanjeev Shastri, dozens of farmers handed over the memorandum to the District Magistrate Ravindra Singh.

They stated that the agreement negotiated by the district administration with the mill owners regarding farmers’ dues from the previous year has not been fulfilled yet. There are still outstanding payments from Shamli sugar mill for last year’s sugarcane, which have not been cleared. They cautioned that if mill does not make the payments to the farmers by May 14, they will organize a protest demonstration at the Shamli Collectorate on May 15. The District Magistrate has assured the farmers of expediting the settlement of their entire dues. On this occasion, Vinay Kumar, Ram Pal Singh, Virendra Kumar, Ikbal Singh, Arvind Jhal, Shishupal, Om Pal Sharma, and others were present.
