Shamli: Two sugar mills to close early due to sugarcane shortage

Muzaffarnagar: The district’s two sugar mills have issued closure notices after issuing additional indents. Khaikhedi has issued a notice for March 24 and Rohana for March 28. Tikaula and Bhaisana sugar mills are likely to shut down by April 10, reported Amar uUala.

After about 15 years, preparations are being made to shut down sugar mills in March. The conclusion of the sessions of sugar mills in the district usually extends from after April 15 to the second week of May. Before this, there was a price war between sugar mills and crushers over sugarcane in 2009-10. At that time, mills were closed in March. This year, sugar mills began to close in March. Since then, sugar mills have not been closed in March until now.

This time, despite the increase in the area under sugarcane cultivation in the district, which has reached 1,76,000 hectares from 1,71,000 hectares, production has decreased. Excessive rain and floods have had a direct impact on sugarcane.
