Six FIRs registered against cane mafias and sugar mill management for illegal cane purchase

Lucknow: According to the instructions given by Hon’ble Chief Minister U.P. Yogi Adityanath for maintaining purity and transparency in cane weighment and to curb the cane mafia, the directions have been issued by Hon’ble Minister of Sugar Industry & Cane Development Department Shri Suresh Rana to curb the cane mafias and to stop underweighment at the cane purchasing centers.

Giving information in this regard, Commissioner cane and Sugar, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy told that for the current crushing season, authority have been granted for detailed inspection of cane purchasing centers, and fortnightly transfer of weighing clerks posted at the purchasing centers are being ensured on random basis by the computer through ERP System.

He also told that in the current crushing season 2019-20, 1433 inspections of cane purchasing centers were done by the department to check underweight. During inspection 11 irregularities of serious nature and 107 of common nature were caught. Taking effective action, licenses of 16 weighing clerks have been suspended and legal action is being taken as per rules, and notices have been issued in 62 cases.

Shri Bhooreddy also informed that immediate action is being taken on getting information about the illegal purchase of cane being made by cane mafias and sugar mills, under which an FIR has been lodged under sections 420 and 120 (b) of the IPC against Chief Manager and Manager IT of sugar mill Belwara, being found involved in illegal cane purchase by sending fake SMS. Besides this in other 05 cases of illegal cane purchase FIR also been lodged against cane mafia, under relevant sections of IPC and the UP Sugarcane (Supply and Purchase Regulation Act, 1953) & Section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act.
