South Africa supports sugarcane farmers

Govt approved R1.5 billion to people affected by looting and unrest in July, said Trade, Industry and Competition minister Ebrahim Patel.

He assured to revive property destroyed and operations disrupted due to the riots in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

“We have received several applications including the 192 cane farmers whose cane was burnt during riots and R85 million was made available for recovery of damage of farmers”, he further added.

According to the media report, he said,”We have also worked with associations and groups. In the sugar industry, we got an application from sugar farmers whose cane was burnt and R85 million was made available to cover 192 sugar farmers. This has been approved and will get to the final beneficiary
