Colombo: Sri Lanka has granted permission to import sugar in the future.
Currently, sugar import is now under licence and requires prior consent from the Controller of Imports and Exports.
Major General Senarath Niwunhella, the Commissioner General of Essential Services said that the government has granted permission to import sugar in the future and the Minister of Finance has asked the concerned officials to take necessary steps in this regard.
Lasantha Alagiyawanna, State Minister of Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs stated that the country has sugar stocks that can cater to domestic demand for more than two months.
