Sri Lanka: JVP files petition in court against sugar import scam

Colombo: The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has filed a Fundamental Rights petition demanding action against those involved in the sugar import scam.

Sunil Handunnetti, former JVP MP said, we have urged the court to issue an order to initiate action against those involved in the scam. The state has lost around Rs 15.9 billion due to the importation of sugar, he said.

The scam was made public after the Finance Ministry submitted a report to the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) in this regard on Tuesday (09).
