Sri Lanka: Manager steals 37 metric tonnes of sugar, arrested

Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Wennappuwa police have arrested a manager of the Wennappuwa Kosgashandiya Sathosa branch for allegedly stealing 37 metric tonnes of sugar, informed a senior official of Sathosa.

According to colombopage.com, the police officials stated that they are investigating the case in detail. The Wennappuwa Kosgashandiya Sathosa branch on an average sells 4 metric tonnes of sugar per month. However, the manager of the branch had placed orders of more sugar than the requirement to the CWE Welisara warehouse.

The police raided the spot after the CWE Special Investigation Unit lodged the complaint and found a lorry transporting the entire consignment of sugar from the warehouse without being taken to the branch store and moving to another outlet.
