Sri Lanka: No fraud in sugar imports, says Minister Ajith Cabraal

Refuting the allegations of the opposition regarding the fraud in the sugar import, State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal stated that the state revenue had reduced by Rs. 15.9 billion due to the reduction of tax on sugar imports.

Speaking in the Parliament, he said that the benefit of the reduction of the tax on sugar has been passed on to the people directly.

“After reducing prices, the benefits are not transferred to the people immediately,” he said.

The opposition is alleging fraud in sugar imports but there has not been any irregularity in sugar imports and everything has happened as per the rule, he said.
