Sri Lanka sets retail price for sugar

Colombo: Keeping a check on the traders selling sugar at high rates, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a gazette notification fixing the maximum price for sugar that has come into effect from November 10.

According to the gazette, the maximum retail price for one kg sugar packet is Rs 90. The price of unpacked sugar is Rs 85 per kg. The maximum wholesale price for the importer will be capped at Rs 80 per kg.

The Consumer Affairs Authority has ordered that no one should sell the sugar above the maximum price fixed for the particular sector. The Importers, Distributors, Traders and Suppliers should abide by this rule.
