Sri Lanka: State-run sugar factories make profit after ethanol ban, says President

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed that Sri Lanka’s decision to ban ethanol imports have benefitted the state-run sugar industries that were under losses. He shared the information while addressing the nation.

Rajapaksa said, ‘Our sugar factories are making a profit today because the importation of ethanol has been completely banned.”

The Sri Lanka government’s decision to ban the import of ethanol has also benefitted the Lanka Sugar Company (Pvt) Ltd. Earlier, the company chairman in a meeting of state enterprises heads with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had stated that about 2,500 employees who were on contract basis for about some 20 years have been made permanent and given promotions and bonuses from the profit.
