Colombo: Sevanagala Sugar Mill has earned a profit of Rs 1.3 billion in 2021, said Janaka Wakkumbura, State Minister of Development of Minor crops including Sugarcane.
For the first time in 35 years the mill has earned such a huge profit since its inception, he said.
He was speaking at a ceremony organised to distribute dividends to the sugarcane farmers, employees and the members of the sugar mill on December 31.
Minister said, “The sugar company had managed to crush 300,000 metric tons of sugarcane this year and has produced 5 million litres of ethanol. The 50 per cent profit of the mill comes from the ethanol.”
