Wilmar Sugar, the biggest sugar producer in Australia, announced on Thursday that strikes by its workers would delay the commencement of cane processing at its factories. Wilmar operates eight sugar mills in Queensland, Australia, which usually operate around the clock during the cane-crushing season from June to November.
“Despite our best attempts to mitigate the impact of work stoppages and other industrial action, we are unable to complete the preparatory work necessary to meet our scheduled start dates,” a company spokesperson stated.
The spokesperson said that production would be delayed by two days at seven of the mills and by seven days at the eighth one, the Plane Creek Mill.
“Considering there’s another full-day strike planned for next Tuesday, the start of production might face further delays,” they added.
