Sugar mills in Tamil Nadu producing hand sanitisers

Coimbatore: After the outbreak of coronavirus, there was a dearth of hand sanitisers. Following which, sugar mills come to rescue to fulfil the shortage in the country. Hand sanitiser prevents in spreading of coronavirus.

With an increase in the demand of hand sanitisers, sugar mills along with other companies across India have started manufacturing hand santisers as a social commitment. Mills in Tamil Nadu too are producing it to fulfil the demand. This has also brought opportunities for cash-strapped sugar companies.

According to The Hindu, Palani G. Periasamy, president of South Indian Sugar Mills’ Association said that this is an opportunity to get into another byproduct. But, how long the demand will last will be known only in the post-COVID period. Many sugar mills in the state have distilleries and have the capacity and potential to get into hand sanitiser production.
