Sugar mills owe cane farmers around Rs 12,400

New Delhi: The pending cane dues continue to increase in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi Adityanath government is yet to announce the State-advised price (SAP) for the sugarcane and has asked the mills to clear the cane payments with earlier rates.

According to the Thehindubusinessline.com, ]as per the data with the UP Sugar Industry & Cane Development Department, the mills from the state have crushed around 560 lakh tonnes of sugarcane amounting to Rs 17,635 crore. The mills have so far cleared Rs 7,205 crore and the unpaid balance till February 6 amounts to Rs 10,430 crore. Apart from this, they owe Rs 1,207 crore and interest amounting to Rs 750 crore to the cane farmers of the previous season.

Cane growers claim that the delay in cane payment has affected their financial condition.
